Alstom runs the XML authoring and content management system TIM-RS for creating documents, managing the publishing process and to improve customer documentation for their gas turbine power plants.
By implementing TIM-RS at Alstom the publishing process has significantly been improved, replacing the previous document management system. Today, a team of almost twenty technical writers, illustrators, and translators use TIM-RS and FrameMaker to create various multi-language publications, such as operating and maintenance manuals for new Alstom power plants worldwide.
The automated authoring and publication process is a special feature of this solution.
All operating and maintenance manuals of the Alstom gas turbine power plants are created on the basis of parts lists using the XML content management system TIM-RS. The data from parts lists are exported to TIM-RS for this purpose, and then TIM-RS organizes the automatic generation of publications. Furthermore, TIM-RS manages the translation process.
Documents and information are available at the same time through various structures (parts list structure, functional structure, content structure). The sophisticated search and retrieval functions of TIM-RS enable optimal access to information and contents from various views. TIM-RS analyzes these different views for the publication and creates an HTML application on CD, providing a quick and reliable access to the right information for the customer.
