Kärcher runs TIM-RS

The way to a "clean" documentation

Kärcher cleaning machine

Kärcher is a leading world-wide supplier of cleaning system solutions for domestic environments, industry and commerce. Kärcher creates and delivers 150 new products and variants per year. For each appliance, seven different kinds of publications (assembly, instruction, service, setup, maintenance manual, safety instructions, and spare part catalogs) have to be delivered in 27 languages.

Before using a professional content management system there was no unique layout, different layouts were created by several independent departments. Time and money was wasted by multiple translations and multiple created graphics. For creating graphics Kärcher used several independent software tools. Texts parts could not efficiently be reused in the various publications.

A story of success

Because of its excellent usability and efficiency in creating and publishing product documentation, Kärcher decided to buy the content management system TIM-RS. After the few streamlined project milestones like system setup, staff instruction and layout and EDD definition TIM-RS was ready to run. Within only four months, Kärcher delivered the first structured publication using TIM-RS.

Summary

Using TIM-RS facilitates a unified content management and creating all kind of multilingual publications very fast. There are significant savings of money and time now, because modules, text parts and graphics are available for reuse in any publication. The reorganization of the editorial department and the implementation of a professional content management system lead to an enormous reduction of internal and external costs. By using the XML content management system TIM-RS and structured FrameMaker the editing time of documents and graphics has been reduced dramatically.
